Welcome to BUSUANGA, CORON, CULION & LINAPACAN (BCCL Health Zone)

PREAMBLE:

We, the stakeholders of Busuanga, Coron, Culion and Linapacan health zone (BCCL Health Zone), with support from concerned government agencies (gas), non-government organizations (NGOs) and the private sector, do hereby commit ourselves to undertake the realization of its defined vision, mission, goals and objectives and other activities stated therein, by using adequate budgetary resources, and manage them efficiently to attain an integrated, comprehensive and quality health care delivery system which is responsive to the needs of the calamianes.

INTRODUCTION

Busuanga, Coron, Culion and Linapacan are the municipalities forming the Calamianes Group of Islands. It is located in the Northern part of the Province of Palawan with combined total land area of more or less 1,765 square kilometers or 11.80% of the total Provincial land area. The total population is 85,099 or nearly 10% of the total provincial population based on the 2005 CBMS report. The total number of barangays is 60, 23 of which is located in the Municipality of Coron; 14 in Busuanga; 13 in Culion while 10 is in Linapacan. The residents are usually engaged in fishing, farming, livestock raising, seaweeds farming, handicrafts and tourism related activities. Unemployment rate is lower than provincial average.



Access to social services is significantly below average indicated by high infant mortality and malnutrition prevalence rates as shown in the annual reports of the Municipalities concerned. In terms of access to safe drinking water and sanitation facilities, the Calamian Municipalities is notably below the provincial average. With regards to performance related to waste disposal, the concerned localities is still below standard.

To deliver quality health services to the people of
Calamianes Group of Islands in a manner that is cost-
effective, efficient, accessible and affordable to be undertakenthrough collaboration and participation of different LGUs,NGAs, the Health Service Providers and the NGOs.
